Youth Ministry at Prince of Peace
The Stepping Stones of Faith
At Prince of Peace we’ve developed a variety of growth experiences for our children. Each of these “stepping stones” is designed to help children in their faith development. The stepping stones of faith include:
Baptism:
Typically held during the first year of a child’s live.
Dedication of Three Year Olds:
At this time three-year olds begin their Sunday School experience.
Sunday School:
Classes are held from September through May at both 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Classes are offered for youth from ages 3 through senior high school.
Prayer Pillow Partners:
First graders are paired with teenagers for the purpose of praying for one another.
Presentation of Bibles:
In second grade all children receive their own Bible. This presentation usually occurs on Reformation Sunday as we celebrate the scriptural grounding of the Lutheran Church.
First Communion:
This is held in 3rd grade and involves a retreat at the church with parents and children. Family and friends then gather after the 5:30 pm. Saturday service to enjoy a meal together.
Faith Fest:
This program is held on Wednesday evenings for 5th and 6th graders. The primary purpose is team building and fellowship.
Confirmation:
During 7th and 8th grade our youth learn the basic content of the Christian faith. A variety of service projects are included as part of the experience.
Faith Explorers:
As our 9th graders prepare to affirm their baptism, they take a variety of field trips and take time to think and talk about what their faith means to them.
Junior LYO:
Youth engage in fellowship and service projects, as well as participate in retreat activities.
Senior LYO:
9th through 12th grade youth engage in fellowship activities and service projects, and participate in intergenerational mission trips and synodical and national youth gatherings. The mission trips have included trips to West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Minnesota and Mississippi. In 2000 the LYO youth attended the National Youth Gathering in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2003 thirty of our youth and adults attended the national Youth Gathering in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2006 our youth and adults attended the National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas.
Baccalaureate:
High School graduates are honored at a special service each spring.
