Community Outreach does A LOT! We do food collections for the Schaumburg Pantry and the  Elijah’s Pantry, a Thanksgiving and Easter food drive and we sponsor a mobile food pantry to our neighbors in Hanover Park and Streamwood. When our homeless neighbors come to us from October through April, it is our P.A.D.S. ministry that makes sure our guests have hot meals and a safe, warm place to sleep.

Our Fall Global Hunger Appeal is a program primarily addressed to our Sunday School and Preschool children to learn about and help fund a specific project to help alleviate world hunger. We also collect backpacks and school supplies for LSSI, along with warm winter coats for Head Start, and collect and wrap Christmas gifts for the LSSI Foster Family Program. We assist RefugeeOne by collecting and providing household goods for our new refugee neighbors to set up housekeeping.

Community Outreach interfaces with High School districts 211 and 214 to provide support and a meeting place for Read to Learn which is a program that provides materials and tutors for people whose native language is other than English. We also supervise the Stephen Ministries caregiving program and the Kids Hope mentoring program.

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others in your community and from around the world? Would you enjoy being part of this group for working on an occasional project?  If you would like to be part of Community Outreach, please contact Rosemary Dyson

THIS YEAR’S ELCA DAY OF SERVING

On Thursday, September 7th from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m., we will be going to the Schaumburg facility of Feed My Starving Children to pack food. Anyone aged 5 years and older is invited to attend. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that sends packages of meals to the hungry in other nations. Volunteers combine and assemble the ingredients in packages which are then shipped to feed the hungry.

Visit fmsc.org to learn about this ministry.  Watch for more information this summer on how to register for this big event.
