Community Concert Series at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Inaugural Season, 2006-2007

At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, we have had a long tradition of presenting fine musical performances involving both members of our congregation and visiting artists. Now on the eve of celebrating our 50th anniversary as a congregation we wish to spread our love of God’s gift of music to our community by creating our Community Concert Series. This series will annually feature a collection of varied musical presentations by local and visiting musicians offered to the community at large. All concerts will be presented free of charge, with a free-will offering being collected.

Prince of Peace is honored to have Mark Mazullo, Assistant Professor of Music History and Piano at Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, and son-in-law to our very own Pastor Don Myrom, present a piano recital. Professor Mazullo has received numerous grants to travel to Russia and France to view and listen to rare material connected to Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, particularly Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes and Fugues. Mazullo has performed recitals at the Music Academy in Sarajevo, Bosnia, performed works of Beethoven and Prokofiev with the St. Paul Civic Symphony and Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis and has regular appearances on the Schubert Clubs Courtroom Concert Series and Macalester’s Janet Wallace Fine Arts Faculty Recitals.

Sunday March 11th at 3:00 p.m.
Our Inaugural season concludes on Sunday March 11th at 3:00 p.m. with a concert of music by Franz Schubert. Schubert’s Mass in G is the focal work on a concert that will feature the Prince of Peace Adult Choir and Orchestra and guest soloists conducted by Director of Music Scott Uddenberg. As with our well-received Mozart concert last spring, this concert will focus on the sacred music of Schubert, and the impact his faith in God had on his work. All will experience an uplifting afternoon of music by a master.

Bach gave us God’s word,
Mozart gave us God’s Laughter,
Beethoven, gave us God’s fire…
God gave us Music so that me might pray without works

Free to the community
These performances are offered free to the community to help spread the Word of the Gospel and the love of music. Many of the artists involved in these concerts share their talents as gifts to God and to the public. As it is with many positive ventures, however, there are costs involved to produce concerts of fine quality worthy to offer to the community at large. If you would like to offer your financial support for these concerts, it is most welcome, and can be addressed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, marked for the music program. If you would like to receive further mailings about concert  information, please contact the church office, 847.885.7010 or church@princeofpeace.net, and ask to be placed on the Community Concert Series Mailing List.
