BAPTISMAL RETREAT If you are planning to have your child baptized at Prince of Peace, you are required to attend a Baptismal Retreat. The next scheduled retreats are Sunday, August 15th and Sunday, November 7th at 12:30 p.m. Please call the church office at 847-885-7010 to register.
THE SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER sermon series resumes in August; each Sunday's sermon
will draw upon a current movie to illustrate the day's scripture text. All
movies will be shown at Prince of Peace on Wednesday at 7 pm (or rent the DVD
and watch it at home). The one exception will be the week when a group will go
see "Toy Story 3" in a local theater; date and time TBA the week
before.
Sunday August 1 "Up in the Air"
Sunday August 8 "Toy Story 3"
Sunday August 15 "The Blind Side"
Sunday August 22 "Precious"
Sunday August 29 "The Book of
Eli"
We will show "Up in the Air" (rated R; 109 minutes) this Wednesday,
July 28 at 7:00 p.m. at church. George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a
man who flies around the world bringing bad news, firing people. His sole goal
in life is to rack up ten million frequent flier miles. He is a stressed-out
workaholic, someone who has a lot in common with the figure in Jesus' parable
of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21).
GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY: Nine volunteers from POP volunteered last Saturday to once again "work the bread line" at GCFD. We, as part of a group of 20 people, examined breads of all kinds for mold, expiration dates, and any other problems. Then packed them into boxes to be shipped to the 650 agencies (soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters). We packed 8250 pounds of breads, muffins, buns, and bagels. Thank-you to all who volunteered. Our next trip to the depository is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
WOMEN'S FRIDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY: On Friday, September 10, we will begin a new, six-week study titled "Mocha on the Mount". This study, by Sandra Glahn, is written for women by a woman of wit and graciousness who weaves scripture and stories into the picture. Ms. Glahn asks: "Imagine yourself having coffee with Jesus. What would you like to ask Him? What might He ask you?". You'll love the way this study is presented (scriptural text is included in the spiral-bound booklet making it easy to take along wherever you go). If you like this coffee series (I love Mocha), we'll order up a cup of "Espresso with Esther" for the next study. Bring a cup of coffee if you like! I'll be having a Mocha BK Joe from Burger King! Please join us, we meet from 9:30am until 11:00am. Everyone is welcome in this friendly and fun-loving group. Study guides are available in the church office. Pick yours up early! For more information, contact Bettye Petersen at 224-569-3744 or e-mail bettyepetersen@att.net.
BACKPACK AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES UPDATE: Thank you to all who donated backpacks and school supplies. As of July 20, we had 47 backpacks! If you still want to help, please bring in your donations by Monday night July 26. We would like to meet our goal of 80 backpacks! LSSI collection boxes are in the Fellowship Hall. Questions? CALLING ALL POP GOLFERS! We’re well into the summer golf season and it’s time for the 10th Annual Prince of Peace golf outing. The outing is set for Saturday August 28. Once again, we’ll tee it up with our friends from Christus Victor Lutheran Church at Bloomingdale Golf Club. Cost for the event is $75 and includes golf and dinner. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite a friend from outside the church to join us in fellowship. Sign-up sheets are available on the table in the Narthex and in the front hall. Contact Doug Beshears 630-968-3729 or Steve Sedlak 847-895-5262 for more information.
