Serving Opportunities
The goal of the Board of Worship and Music is to plan, prepare, and implement regular and special worship services.
- Board of Worship Director Two year term:
Provide for recruitment, training, and scheduling lay worship support. Provide for substitute pastors, guest speakers, and musical staff as needed. Audit and maintain expenses consistent with the annual budget. Chair the Board of Worship meetings. Serve as a member of the Parish Planning Council.
- Altar Guild Coordinator Two year term:
Attend Board of Worship meetings. Coordinate communion and baptisms for all services. Provide printed guidelines, training, and practice sessions for altar guild volunteers.
- Altar Guild:
Sixteen to twenty members rotate to prepare the Nave for services including communion, baptisms, funerals, and festivals. During an assigned time members bake communion bread, arrange flowers, dust and clean, check candles, rotate paraments, and arrange communion ware. Help clean altar area and do partial communion set up before and after 5:30 pm Saturday service. Help with communion set up and clean up for the first Sunday service. Help with the washing and drying of communion glasses. Assist with the funeral pall set up and take down. Launder and iron altar linens. Be a bread baker for communion. Help clean the Christian Life Center (CLC) and do partial set up for Crossroads Sunday service. Help with communion clean up after the Crossroads service. Help purchase altar guild supplies. Help dust and vacuum altar areas.
- Ushers Coordinator Two year term:
Attend Board of Worship meetings. Recruit and assign usher volunteers. Print and distribute schedules to volunteers and the church office. Provide training and practice sessions. Provide ushers with printed guidelines
- Usher:
Volunteer to become an usher. Greet people, give them a bulletin and direct to seating. Pass offering plates, and direct people to the communion rail. Determine if people are visiting and introduce them to a member. Arrive 15 minutes before the service. Tidy pews after the service.
- Communion Asistant: Assist with the serving of communion.
- Communion Helper:
Follow assistant collecting empty cups.
- Senior Choir:
Volunteer ensemble open to all singers without an audition. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings. Prepare and present music according to schedule
- Orchestra:
Strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion players are needed. Orchestra plays occasionally. Meet for rehearsal as required. Practice and perform music as scheduled.
- Hand Bell Choir:
Become a member of the hand bell choir. Training is provided. Must be able to read music. Attend rehearsals held on Tuesday evenings.
- Crossroads Band:
Singers and instrumentalists who rehearse weekly to lead worship in the Sunday Crossroads Service.
- Assisting Minister:
Practice the scripture readings and read them at worship. Assist with communion. Prepare and lead prayers. Read the appropriate parts of the liturgy as indicated in the worship folder.
- Liturgical Arts Team:
Change paraments and church decorations according to the liturgical year. Meet to create new ideas and new décor as needed. Help with large wall banners displayed in the worship center. Help with cloth drapes on the three wreaths in the worship center. Assist in the displaying of small red felt banners during the affirmation of baptism service. Help with decorations and displays set up for Christmas in the worship centers. Plan and set up plant displays for Christmas, Palm Sunday, and Easter.
