Serving Opportunities
The goal of serving ministries is to address parish and community needs, to provide congregational care, and to support synod and global service opportunities.
- Stephen Minister:
Lay people in our congregation who reach out to members of the church and community. The four H’s in Stephen Ministry are Hear, Hope, Help, and Heal. Meet with assigned care receiver one hour a week. Attend supervision and advanced training as scheduled.
- Stephen Leader:
Directs the Stephen Ministry Program including teaching, publicity, and supervision.
- Cars Program:
Provide rides for individuals needing assistance to doctors’ appointments, hospital tests, therapy, and to church.
- Read to Learn:
Program is once a week. Help adult students and adults develop and improve their English language proficiency.
- Prayer Chain Member:
Receive monthly prayer requests and pray for them.
- Pads Program (Public Action to Deliver Shelter):
Program runs from October through April one evening per week. Some training required. Prepare a hot dish, salad, or dessert for Pads. Volunteer to supervise. Three shifts per night. Each shift is 4 hours. Prepare and serve meals. Help purchase supplies. Help run registration. Help with set up and clean up for Pads. Plan and implement a celebration program for Pads volunteers at the end of the season.
- Blood Drive:
Donate blood. Coordinate blood drives held on Sundays several times a year. Help with set up for the drive. Volunteer for clean up.
- Food Pantry: Volunteer to collect food for Elijah’s Pantry, and Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Volunteer at the Food Depository in Chicago. Transport donations of food to various pantry locations.
- Special Collections:
Become a volunteer for LSSI Christmas gift collection. People are needed to shop and wrap gifts. Collect and deliver Christmas gifts to the Second Family Children in the foster care system.
- World Hunger:
Help with the collection of funds for the World Hunger Program. Be a volunteer walker for the Crop Walk. Help in the collection of funds to support our missionaries overseas.
- Advocacy Volunteer:
Create awareness of special issues and encourage support through phone calls, e-mails, and letters.
