Serving Opportunities

The primary goals of the Board of Evangelism are to reach out to new members and potential members and provide for the spiritual growth and fellowship of current members.

  • New Members and Visitors Coordinator:  Attend new member classes to welcome, provide hospitality, and aid.  Recruit new member sponsors. Help provide new members’ biographies and photographs in the Tidings Newsletter. Make a presentation on Evangelism at the new member classes. Help plan and implement a dinner at the end of the new member classes. Oversee the creation of gift bags with Christian promotional items for new members.
  • New Member Dinner Team: 
    Coordinate the food and serving of new member dinners.
  • New Member Sponsor: 
    Contact the new member you are sponsoring to get acquainted. Attend the new member dinner and the service when the member is received. Touch base monthly over the next three months to assure that the new member’s questions are answered and that the new member is becoming involved in the life of the church.
  • Visitor and Member Follow-up Co-ordinator:
    Coordinate phone calls to absent members on a regular basis.  Recruit callers. Recruit note writers for Second Time Visitors. Oversee the creation and supply of visitor gifts. Maintain a supply of Bibles to give away and be sure they are out.
  • Welcome Center Staff: 
    Sit at the welcome center desk on your assigned Sunday. Greet visitors. Answer questions as you are able. Seek out other answers and get back to the visitor. Familiarize yourself with brochures and direct visitors to them.
  • Greeter Coordinator: 
    Recruit and train people to staff the Welcome Center. Recruit and train worship greeters. Prepare schedule of greeters and Welcome Center volunteers and distribute to greeters and church office. Provide greeters and Welcome Center volunteers with printed guidelines.
  • Greeter: 
    Greet people entering the church and direct them to their location. Make a pastor aware of their presence.
  • In Reach Coordinator: 
    Help maintain an adequate supply of brochures and pamphlets, and Newsletters at the various locations around the church. Check that these are current.
  • Building Inspector: 
    Do spot checks for clutter, attractiveness, and need for minor repairs. Be sure signage is current and highly visible. Look at the facility through the eyes of a visitor for a welcoming appearance.
  • Phone Caller: 
    Make phone calls as required to absent members or to new members as deemed necessary.
  • Note Writer: 
    Write notes to all second time visitors.
  • Spiritual Growth Coordinator: 
    Maintain current course offerings and descriptions.  Make course suggestions. Maintain a brochure of adult learning opportunities. Provide leadership training for small group leaders.
  • Visibility Co-ordinator: 
    Organize Schaumburg & Hoffman Estates Parade participation. Assist in organizing trailer rental, truck driver and truck. Purchase “give away” items.
  • Bulletin Board Co-ordinator: 
    Maintain and arrange for the changing of bulletin boards. Put up and take down materials on a timely basis.
  • Bulletin Board Creator: 
    Design appropriate bulletin boards in conjunction with various church board chairs
  • Gift Bag Creator: 
    Assemble gift bags for new members
  • Spiritual Growth Team: 
    Be a retreat leader or helper. Be a small group leader. Attend meetings to plan adult education opportunities and assist in implementing classes and special programs. Be a resource person for classes.
  • Teacher: 
    Teach a class or present a lecture
  • Small Group Leader: 
    Facilitate learning and discussion in a small group setting
