Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is a Welcoming and Affirming Congregation
In early 1997 Prince of Peace became a "Welcoming and Affirming Congregation" when it adopted the following statement of welcome:
"That persons of all races, ages, physical, mental and emotional status or capacity, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, economic condition, national and ethnic origins, share with all other the worth which comes from being unique individuals created by God in need of forgiveness."
"That all persons named and unnamed above are welcome within the membership of the congregation upon making the same affirmation of faith that all others make; and, that as members of this congregation all are expected and encouraged to share in the sacramental and general life of this congregation."
A Reconciling in Christ Congregation (RIC)
Prince of Peace is a Reconciling in Christ congregation, a program of Lutherans Concerned/North America, that commits congregations to opening their doors to all people, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
In 1984 Lutherans Concerned / North America started the Reconciling in Christ ("RIC") Program to recognize Lutheran congregations that welcome lesbian and gay believers. During the 2002 LC/NA Assembly, members took action to include people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the RIC Program. The Reconciling in Christ Roster now exceeds 300 settings, including congregations, synods and organizations.
